Time-resolved reflection spectroscopy for simultaneous monitoring VUV waveform and plasma formation

Itakura, Ryuji

no journal, ,

In this study, we propose and demonstrate a new methodology based on time-resolved vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) reflection spectroscopy for monitoring plasma formation induced by an intense laser pump pulse. The temporal waveform of a VUV probe pulse is also retrieved simultaneously.

Phase measurement of vacuum-ultraviolet pulse and control of electronic states

Itakura, Ryuji; Nakajima, Takashi*

no journal, ,

We experimentally demonstrate a new method for phase measurement of vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) pulses. When a surface of fused silica is irradiated with an intense laser pulse, electronic excitation takes place through highly nonlinear processes resulting in the plasma formation. The reflectivity in the VUV wavelength region is changed significantly depending on the number of excited electrons. Through measurement of the time-resolved VUV reflection spectrum and analysis with an algorithm of frequency-resolved optical gating we can extract both the spectral phase of VUV pulse and the time-dependent reflectivity of a plasma mirror. The method developed in this study opens the door to research on highly excited electronic dynamics in solid.
